In 3-point bend, the load is applied at the centre of the sample, creating maximum stress directly under the load point. In 4-point bend, two loads are applied symmetrically, creating a uniform stress zone between the load points. 4-point bend is more representative of real-world bending scenarios and reduces edge-effect errors. Choose 3-point for standard QA; choose 4-point for precise material characterization & composites.
A standard flexural test (ASTM D790 or ISO 178) takes 5–15 minutes per sample, depending on material stiffness & deflection. Test setup & sample prep typically add 30 minutes. We can test multiple samples in parallel. For an urgent batch of 5 samples, expect results within 2–4 business days.
Yes. We can perform flexural testing at elevated (up to 150°C) or low temperatures (down to −20°C), following ASTM D638 conditioning protocols. Temperature-dependent flexural behaviour is critical for automotive & aerospace applications. Contact us for custom temperature profiles.
